Kick-off Meeting of the Project “Promoting Well-managed labour migration to Portugal"
On the 15th of December, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Portugal organized the kick-off meeting of the project “Promoting well-managed labour migration to Portugal”, co-financed by AMIF – Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, SEF – Immigration and Borders Service and IEFP – Institute for Employment and Vocational Training.
The Association of Municipal Horticulturists, Fruit and Flower Growers from Odemira and Aljezur (AHSA) and the Algarve Regional Tourism Board are implementing partners.
This project, focused on the Agriculture and Tourism sectors in the Algarve and Alentejo regions, aims to define a plan to develop future labour migration schemes for Portugal, based on a good management of labour migration, to respond quickly to the existing demand in the labor market and to encourage the creation of safe paths for the migration of foreign workers.
During the meeting the main objectives, expected results and were presented to all institutions whose involvement is essential for the success of this initiative.
In addition to the project partners, various representatives of public institutions were present at the event, namely the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, State Secretariat for Integration and Migration, Municipalities the High Commission for Migration, ANA - Airports of Portugal, Working Conditions Authority, Social Security, the International Labour Organization, private sector and civil society. The meeting was also attended by the IOM missions in Bangladesh, Cabo Verde, India, Morocco, Moldova and Nepal and representatives of the Governments of Bangladesh, Cape Verde, India and Moldova.
