IOM Portugal has recently produced two new materials - a Training Plan and a Syllabus on Intercultural Mediation - designed to reinforce the training of the staff of the National Support Centres for the Integration of Migrants and the Migrant Support Line of the High Commission for Migration (ACM).
These materials are the result of a collaborative process with ACM and its staff, based on participatory methods, with a view to supporting and strengthening their training competencies.
The Training Plan compiles a set of training modules that are fundamental to the exercise of functions at ACM. It is divided into initial and continuous training, and mandatory and optional, allowing for the creation of training paths adapted to the needs of the staff, including in the field of intercultural mediation.
In turn, the Intercultural Mediation Syllabus details a training path in this area, providing useful resources and materials for trainees and trainers, reinforcing ACM's central role in this area.
In order to ensure the sustainability of the training on intercultural mediation, a Group of Replicators Intercultural Mediation was set up, composed of ACM staff members, to teach modules of the path to other CNAIM and LAM colleagues. With the aim of preparing the members of this group as replicators, a 25-hour training course on this topic was organized between September and October 2023, in both face-to-face and online formats.
These materials and training were developed by IOM in collaboration with Stone Soup Consulting and Aga Khan Foundation, as part of the project "Portugal: Enhancing Migrant Integration Services".
The materials developed will be available for AIMA - Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum.
This project is funded by the European Union through the Technical Assistance Instrument and implemented by IOM Portugal, in cooperation with the European Commission.
